چکیده
Gaur N, et al. BMJ Case Rep 2017. doi:10.1136/bcr-2017-221248 Description A 14-year-old man presented to the emergency services following trauma to his left eye (LE) sustained during a battery explosion. The patient was conscious, and oriented in time, space and person, and higher mental functions were preserved. The patient had visual acuity of light perception in his left eye. Head of a metallic screw could be seen on ocular examination and the screw appeared to penetrate the left superior orbit through the upper eyelid (figure 1A). Details of the eyeball could not be visualised, though the cornea appeared opacified. Intraocular pressure could not be assessed on digital palpation due to severe lid oedema. The fellow eye was within normal limits. Ultrasound was avoided in view of suspected open globe injury. Transorbital Penetrating Brain Injury with a Large Foreign Body
A 30-year-old man presented with forward protrusion of the left globe one hour after falling in a ditch of wooden sticks. Except for a minor headache, no other neurological abnormality was reported. The patient was well oriented in time, place and person without any neurological deficit. Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score was 15 and all vital signs were within normal limits. Ophthalmic examination ...
متن کاملOccult Orbitocranial Penetrating Pencil Injury in a Child
Transorbital slow-penetrating injury is an uncommon type of head injury that is seen more often in the pediatric age group. This type of injury can be occult, which is often associated with serious complications. We report on a 4-year-old female who presented with orbital swelling after an unwitnessed right orbital injury following a fall on her face at her school. Three days after injury, the ...

The prognosis of double penetrating ocular trauma is usually guarded. We report the good anatomical and functional outcome in a patient with double-penetrating ocular trauma associated with intraorbital foreign body. A 58-year-old man presented at the emergency room complaining of blurred vision of the left eye with stinging pain after he hammered an iron plate. Best-corrected visual acuity was...
متن کاملPenetrating Trans-Orbital Injury from a Brush Handle Lodged in the Infra-Temporal Fossa
The infra-temporal fossa (ITF) contains major vessels and cranial nerves. It is divided into two regions: the retro-styloid region, which includes cranial nerves IX and XII, the jugular foramen, and the internal carotid artery; and the pre-styloid region, which includes the trigeminal and facial nerves [1]. The penetration of trans-orbital injuries is rarely observed in emergency departments, a...
متن کاملAn unusual transorbital penetrating injury and principles of management.
The objective of this study was to present an unusual low velocity transorbital penetrating injury. The study design was a clinical record (case report). A 38-year-old gentleman tripped and fell face first onto the wing of an ornamental brass eagle. This penetrated the inferomedial aspect of the right orbit, breaching the lamina papyracea to extend into the ethmoid sinuses and reaching the dura...
